Defining the security challenges

With a mission to make the world a safer place by reducing the risks caused by UXO, 1st Line Defence knew they had to also keep themselves protected in order to grow their business. This meant addressing security weaknesses and bridging the cyber security knowledge gap among staff.

By identifying that not all employees possessed a high degree of information security awareness, 1st Line Defence wanted to provide their team with regular training so they were better equipped to defend against everyday threats.

The leadership team also wanted to boost their security tools beyond basic workstation anti-virus software and the regular Windows updates provided by their outsourced IT provider. After speaking with security consultants at Defense.com™, they realized their systems were not best protected against new and emerging cyber threats and this increased their risk of a cyber attack.

Finally, the need to adhere to compliance regulations was slowing down the business. 1st Line Defence needed to move away from manual processes and paperwork to a fully digitised system to improve efficiency.

“We were immediately impressed with the Defense.com™ feature set. It provided us with the perfect blend of enterprise security tools and expert consultants to keep us safe. I was also pleasantly surprised it came at a very affordable price for a smaller business.”

Features they love

1st Line Defence made use of a number of features, but in particular they found the following features of great value to their business.

It’s best practice to run regular vulnerability scans to complement your pen testing schedule. This feature makes it easy for you to schedule regular scans or perform a quick on-demand test.
Engaging video training that covers all the essential security topics is combined together with exams to ensure your staff are fully trained and tested. In addition, you can get access to live instructor-led training from fully qualified security experts.
Advanced anti-virus and anti-malware gives you peace of mind that every workstation, server, mailbox and mobile device is protected at all times.
Train your staff to spot malicious emails and test your incident response plan regularly with our easy-to-use phishing campaign tool. Fully managed phishing campaigns can also be built to suit your own tailored requirements (Business package only).

How Defense.com helped

With access to Defense.com™, each member of staff was provided with awareness training covering all aspects of security that would affect their day-to-day roles. This led to all employees passing exams and feeling more confident in their ability to identify and avoid potential threats. Phishing simulations were also carried out, with further practical training provided to employees who required it.

To enhance the business’ infrastructure security, endpoint protection was immediately rolled out to all workstations, monitored 24/7 by experts in Defense.com’s Security Operations Centre (SOC). 1st Line Defence was also able to enhance its Office365 security following best practice advice from Defense.com™ consultants, including the introduction of new role-based access policies and two-factor authentication. For continued protection, these measures are supported by automated monthly vulnerabilities scans which focus on identifying weaknesses in key systems.

To overcome the tedious paperwork exercises necessary to meet their information security obligations, 1st Line Defence now makes use of the Defense.com™ Compliance Manager portal. By digitising its GDPR policies, risk assessments and assets, business stakeholders now have more time to focus on growth.

“Working with the Defense.com™ consultants helped us to identify areas of our cyber security we needed to improve. We now have the right processes in place, a more informed and knowledgeable team, as well as the support of security experts whenever we need assistance.”
